Blade Guardian

Blade Guardian is a fascinating tower defense game on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. What amazes me the most about Blade Guardian is how much of the game is left to the player. Meaning where we place defense is up to us. The game will stop us from completely blocking the path, but aside from that it is up to us. Like other tower defense games there are financial resources we start with, and we also get them for killing off the attacking creatures.

There is some blood and gore in Blade Guardian. The enemies will lose some fluids as they fall down. Most of the enemies remind me of extremely large bugs. I was not really clear why they were attacking our bases but we were tasked with defending them from the advancing hordes.

Players can lay down a variety of defenses in Blade Guardian. My favorite was pipes. See pipes only cost one unit and can be used to direct where the attacking creatures walk. Which is a great benefit to us since we can catch them in enfilades. Nothing like raining down tons of fire down a narrow corridor.

The music in Blade Guardian is good. I felt the power of the presence of these landscapes. Many of which made me think of the moon. The battle sounds are not overwhelming. I appreciate how Blade Guardian lets us put our defenses on the pipes or on the ground. This opens up all kinds of strategy.

Blade Guardian starts easy enough, but it can get difficult as the player progresses. I found myself stuck early on, but others here at Family Friendly Gaming were able to blow through that level without any problems. Guess I am not smarter than the average bear at times.

I am thankful that Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code of Blade Guardian before it officially launched. This app is like open source for tower defense games. Players are left all kinds of choices in Blade Guardian.
