Teyon Games is carving
out a nice little niche in the downloadable video games section of
Nintendo hand helds. Yes I know they publish games on more platforms
than just the Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo DSi. Candle Route is a Nintendo
DSi title that looks really bad. I tried for a long time to find a nice
way of saying that. Yes I am about as subtle as a Mack truck.
The graphics in Candle Route look about good as I can draw with crayons.
As a child or as an adult. In case some of ya'll forgot, I have little
to no artistic talent. My wife gets on me for wearing clashing colors. I
did notice the little animations in Candle Route reflect the fire theme.
We have a candle who picks up matches. We have to collect all the
matches in a level and light all the candles.
That sure sounds easy doesn't it? The key to Candle Route, and what
makes it a really good puzzle game is the route. Yeah some of ya'll out
there actually read the full name of this game and realized it had
something to do with it. Candle Route will only let us take certain
routes, and the designs of the levels can get in the way at times.
We are allowed multiple paths. Meaning we can walk over here in one
turn, and over there in another. There are a limited amount of turns,
and a player can fail a level by using up all their turns and not
completing the level. I found some thought before moving (like chess)
led to a higher percentage of success.
The best part about Candle Route is it is only 200 Nintendo points. That
is two dollars. So we are in the same ballpark as many apps out there.
Candle Route contains one hundred levels which also keeps it in the
ballpark of many apps out there. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a
download code for this review.
All in all Candle Route is a very pleasant experience. There are so many
great looking games out there that have horrible game play. There are
great looking games out there that are over really quickly. Candle Route
will stick with you long after many other games on your Nintendo DSi.
Nintendo 3DS owners can download and play Candle Route as well.
