Chulip
SCORE: 60
Chulip is a Playstation 2 game that
Natsume is bringing digitally to the Playstation 3. This home console
game is the oddest I have ever played. We go around kissing people. We
go to the bathroom to save the game. Finally we have to worry about what
time it is in the game.
Chulip feels like it is part Harvest Moon without any of the animals or
vegetables. It also feels like it is part Animals Crossing. And Chulip
is all fixated on kissing. We do chores for villagers to make them
happy. Then we can kiss them. We can also sneak up on some characters
and kiss them.
If you fail at a kiss, or get your odd looking character hurt in a
variety of different activities you will lose hearts. Lose too many and
it is game over. Go back to your last save. Yes it is definitely old
school in that regard. So playing cautiously is very important. Our goal
is to kiss the girl of our dreams in front of a tree with a man's head.
In what looks a lot like a wedding ceremony.
Players can find things in a variety of places like trash cans. What
kinds of things can be found? Poopie is the one that stink out in my
mind. This may be a good time to notice the rating, and all of the
ESRB's descriptors that accompany Chulip on the Playstation 3.
At the end of the day our character is graded by his father and that
tree with a human face on how many kisses were done. Then we find out if
we can level up or not. The father will also go to bed. Usually he is
satisfied that our reputation improves. We start poor and with a bad
reputation.
Time progresses in Chulip like it does in Harvest Moon. Characters are
only in certain areas at certain times. Stores are only open at certain
times, and so on. It is wise to pay attention to the time while trying
to perform the tasks that have been given to you. They start easy
enough, but get more difficult as time progresses.
Chulip also lets players be peeping toms looking into holes to see
people's rooms in the sewers. I said this game was odd. It is not what
Natsume is generally known for. I found Chulip to be one of the most
unique games I have ever played. It is a definite acquired taste. Which
I hope to get off my lips very soon.
