Crimson Shroud

Crimson Shroud may be the most interesting role playing game released all year long. It is on the Nintendo 3DS, and is a download only title. That means you can not walk into a store and purchase it. An Internet connection and router are needed to download directly to your hand held. Companies can save a lot of money, and that is passed on to you the consumer.

Crimson Shroud is old school role playing. That means we roll dice in certain situations. How the roll goes will impact what happens in the game in many situations. Like whether we fight or sneak past the enemy. Each room presents its very own challenges. We may surprise enemies, or get ambushed.

Crimson Shroud provides players with a ton of information when they enter a room. There will be hints and clues as to where enemies may be, and which direction is safer. Ultimately it is up to the player to explore every section to unearth all of the secrets in this hand held video game.

The coolest thing about Crimson Shroud is how it starts out talking about gifts from God. There are those who do not believe in God, and instead they commune with spirits. It was just wonderful to see God in a role playing game instead of all that goddess stuff in so many other RPG's.

Crimson Shroud is told through flashbacks. Like an onion, we realize there are multiple layers to Crimson Shroud. The choose your own adventure kind of game play to the areas works better in execution than it sounds written down. Melding objects together to create more powerful ones helps with the replay value.

The characters in Crimson Shroud are represented in the form of figures on stands. When they lose all their health they fall backwards. There is a female character dressed provocatively. Expect some ugly monsters, blood, and violence. The violence is played out in the traditional turned based role playing game style.

The music in Crimson Shroud is fantastic. Crimson Shroud is also shorter than most role playing games. It is also a lot cheaper too. Rooms will have to be replayed multiple problems to try and find the right combination. Crimson Shroud is not for everyone, but hardcore D&D fans will definitely take an interest.
