Growlanser Wayfarer of Time

RPG Fans with a level over one hundred know Atlus well. Atlus brings over many role playing games that the American audience would not normally see. These can be quirky titles, or games that hardcore gamers will worship for years to come. Growlanser Wayfarer of Time fits some place in between those two.

There are a few intriguing things about Growlanser Wayfarer of Time. When we go to a house, our main character knocks on the door. A person comes to the door and talks to us. We are not allowed to home invade and rummage through their possessions. There are places like Inns that we can walk into. They won't let us into a room without paying.

The next tantalizing thing about Growlanser Wayfarer of Time is the battles. Commands are given to each member of the player's party. They then enact it in real time on the screen. We see an enemy and the commands screen comes up. We watch our characters attack from afar, walk up to them and attack. Casting spells takes time and is usually not very efficient in this Playstation Portable (PSP) hand held video game.

Moving around town and field screens (when not in battle mode) is hyper active. Our characters move at a break neck speed. Which was cool at first, but became a problem when trying to get to a certain location. Like where our save is in our room. Speaking of saves, they are too few and too far between in Growlanser Wayfarer of Time. Players can lose hours of work if they die deep in a dungeon. Experience, gold and items are not carried over. We have to go back to our last save.

The art work in Growlanser Wayfarer of Time is fantastic. We are talking anime level art. The downside to the graphics is mainly the women. Growlanser Wayfarer of Time shows women as sexual objects repeatedly. There is also blood and gore in some of the cut scenes. In one scene a man punches right through the chest of a woman character - killing her.

The most bizarre thing about Growlanser Wayfarer of Time is the "bad guys." They are angels. Growlanser Wayfarer of Time teaches gamers to hate angels. This reviewer refuses to follow that kind of a teaching. It is possible that it will influence other gamers out there. Remember the rating of Growlanser Wayfarer of Time before purchasing.

The music in Growlanser Wayfarer of Time is noteworthy. The title song exhibits talents on multiple layers. The voices in portions of Growlanser Wayfarer of Time are neat. At times they felt a little forced though. Growlanser Wayfarer of Time introduces gamers to a variety of bad words. The disappointing part is those words were not needed in those situations.

As the Playstation Portable enters the annuls of gaming history, and the Playstation Vita becomes more prominent we can expect less games like Growlanser Wayfarer of Time. At least on this hand held platform. The freakiest part about Growlanser Wayfarer of Time is angels being shown as the bad guys. The battles are engaging at first and are a fun twist.
