Pritect Sensor Cover
SCORE: 83
It is interesting to me to see how
different minds come to the same conclusions. We have talked internally
here at Family Friendly Gaming quite a bit about the potential for
danger with cameras in the gaming rooms (or living rooms, or where ever
the Xbox 360 Kinect is). I personally was very opposed to the idea of a
camera watching me game. I recognize how it changes gaming. But the
thought of someone being able to use the Kinect to peep is a very
unnerving one.
When it comes to the Kinect Sensor the Playstation Eye, I keep them
unplugged when they are not being used. The whole being watched thing is
not my cup of tea. But then I am not exactly the average every day
parent. I was a Cryptologist in the Air Force so safety in terms of
security is rattling around in my brain somewhere all of the time.
Our good friends over at Catalyst Components have come up with an
interesting idea that will help protect families. That idea comes in the
form of Pritect Sensor Cover. This molded piece of plastic slides right
over the Kinect Sensor. It completely blacks out the camera. So it can
not see you. It is easy to slide on and
slide back off.
The Pritect Sensor Cover has a hole in it on the front. This allows you
to see the Xbox 360 logo on the Kinect sensor. I have no idea why that
is important. Maybe it is something Microsoft wanted. Its not like I
ever confuse my Wii sensor or Playstation Eye with the Kinect Sensor.
Maybe you do. Maybe they were worried about it.
The really cool thing about the Pritect Sensor Cover is it does not stop
the verbal commands. So I can still verbally move around the menus of
the Xbox 360 by talking to it. The camera screen comes up and it is
completely blacked out. Some may ask why can't they put a blanket over
the Kinect Sensor. Electronics and quickly combustible materials is
something you should stay way from.
The price of Pritect Sensor Cover is reasonable at $14.99. I actually
found it on Amazon currently on sale for a few dollars cheaper. If
security is a concern, or peeping Toms, then you should check out the
Pritect Sensor Cover. Companies may also use what they see to cater
advertising directly towards you. Unless you find a way to protect
yourself.
