Astro Shark

Does the Family Friendly Gaming Nation remember Electric Tentacle? If not you should check it out. The FFG review encouraged the developer, and they have created Astro Shark. This game is based on a shark that is in love with a dog. A bit on the odd side, but okay. The dog gets kidnapped and we are off into space - for a rescue.

Astro Shark is an orbit game. We orbit planets with the Astro Shark and let go to send him careening off into space. Hopefully we are going towards the planet we want to reach. We can tap other planets to partially orbit to change our direction. It is all extremely intuitive and easy to pick up.

Make sure you have an iPhone 4 or newer to play Astro Shark. It failed on a generation three iPod Touch, and an original iPad for us here at Family Friendly Gaming. There are a nice slate of colors used in this space flying game. We meet different animals along the way.

Astro Shark would be such an easy and simple game if there were no rockets chasing us. They come flying out of planets and whack us. That is a really bad thing, and it is level over. How can we avoid these heat seeking devices that are faster than us? We can maneuver them into planets or orbit special planets that will take them out. An ice planet will send out liquid that will immobilize them for a few seconds. Mines around special planets will blow them up, and so on.

Astro Shark can be a difficult game in some levels. I liked being able to crash through planets and lose my flame. Especially if I was going the right direction. The rockets lost track of me, and I could put some distance between us before my guy would flame back up.

I think it would have been great if Astro Shark had power ups like sending a decoy off another direction to get the rockets off my trail long enough to make it to the end planet. But I did not run across anything like that. Maybe a future update will include power ups that can be earned with in game coins and in app purchases.
