Astro
SCORE: 75
Astro pays
homage to one of the greats from the history of video games - Asteroids.
Maybe it was not one of the greats, but it was from the past. Astro
plays like Asteroids, just beefed up and brought into a more modern
concept. Including a story. I always wondered why we were in that
asteroid field, and how come we could never leave.
In Astro we learn of a far future where space travel and colonies on
other worlds is possible. Yes Astro is a bit of science fiction fantasy.
These pirates destroy the entire space armada, and supply lines to the
needed fuel. They take over colonies and demand surrender.
The commander in Astro comes up with a plan. He uses a prototype ship
with a criminal. Those two together will fight off the pirates and save
the day. A similar idea was used in Escape from New York, and some other
films. Players take control of the ship and fend off the asteroids that
come their way.
Wait there is more to Astro. Enemy ships come at us from all angles.
Players need to move around and shoot in all four directions. Each of
the four buttons will fire a different direction. There are also power
ups that are collected to provide the player even more fire power.
You will need all the help you can get in Astro. Even on the easiest
setting this is a challenging game. Things can get fast and furious in
Astro, especially as players try to avoid getting hit by a variety of
objects on the screen. Hardcore gamers will get a kick out of this
downloadable hand held game. Just do not expect too much from the
graphics department. The sounds are rocking though.
