Cake Ninja 2

Who out there in Family Friendly Gaming Nation remembers Fruit Ninja? Cake Ninja 2 is a Nintendo DSi game that is very similar. We are not slicing and dicing fruit though, we are slicing and dicing cake. Now I do a lot of things with cake, but throwing it up into the air and cutting it is not part of my normal regiment.

Cake Ninja 2 (which is also playable on the Nintendo 3DS) is a downloadable game on the eShop that sells for $4.99 (or 500 Nintendo Points). It contains a single player, and a multiplayer mode. There are achievements families can attain, and four main game play modes.

The storyline behind why the ninjas are cutting up the cake in Cake Ninja 2 is actually humorous. The ninja wife is getting too wide from all that cake. The way to save her is to cut all the cake up before she can eat it. The exercise of cutting all that cake can not hurt either.

The different modes in Cake Ninja 2 can help extend the life span of this hand held video game. The slicing action with the stylus changes based on where the cakes and cookies are flying up. Cake Ninja 2 can get repetitive depending on which mode you are playing. Cake Ninja 2 is a clone of Fruit Ninja, but it is a decent clone.

The graphics in Cake Ninja 2 can be a bit on the darker side - at least in terms of the background. The cakes look okay, and the music has an eastern flair to it. The different power ups that can be found in Cake Ninja 2 are really neat. I loved the ninja stars flying all around the screen cutting up all the cakes and cookies.

Cake Ninja 2 shows me this franchise has potential. Future releases of this game could catch or even surpass Fruit Ninja. It might be neat to see Cake Ninja 2 on the Xbox 360 Kinect. God only knows if that will happen.
