Creativium

Creativium is an iPad app that is
described as "An interactive paper-like theater that is suitable for
kids age 2 and above." What does that mean exactly? It is like looking
at a scene or opening an interactive story book page. Kids tap on an
object and something happens.
What kinds of things happen in Creativium? A bee character will fly from
one tree area to another tree area. Flowers will bloom, and animals will
have a variety of different animations. Kids can also take pictures in
Creativium. There are areas like the castle where stickers can be
applied.
I let some children try Creativium. They enjoyed Creativium for a few
minutes and then moved on. I did some investigating to find out why they
moved on so quickly. Creativium is crashing on our iPad at a high
frequency. Completely shut down the iPad and started it again. The
crashes continued - mainly when the moon is hit in the level.
Some additional screens would have made sense. We have reviewed a wide
array at apps here at Family Friendly Gaming. Most of them have more
content than Creativium, especially for that price. Creativium is a good
start, and I expect there will be free updates with more pages added
soon.
Taking pictures is an interesting aspect to Creativium. Kids enjoyed
getting to snap pictures here and there. But even with out the crashes
they explored everything and moved on. Creativium is an easy game for
kids to interact with. It also encourages exploration of the screen.

UPDATE {Creativium crashed the iPad repeatedly. Those crashes do not
occur on the second generation iPad (aka iPad 2)}
