Disney Wings of Life
SCORE: 77
For a long time my image of Disney was
their cartoons. I knew they made live action family films, but was not
very aware of their nature films. Disney Wings of Life is a movie all
about the pollinators. Although some of the pollinators referenced in
Disney Wings of Life do not have any wings whatsoever.
This eighty minute film is narrated by Meryl Streep. She gives a voice
to the flowers. She references how they reproduce thanks to the
symbiotic relationship with insects, bats, birds, and others. Which
makes me realize both of these species had to have been put here at the
exact same time.
Disney Wings of Life is generally safe for families. It does touch on
two extremely controversial and divisive topics. Disney Wings of Life
express a belief in old earth. It also states a religious belief in
evolution. There were no such fair references to young earth or
creationism. If the Fairness Doctrine were in place, Disney Wings of
Life would violate it for not giving equal time to opposing viewpoints.
The visuals in Disney Wings of Life are absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed
seeing the birds, bees, and trees. The bats had cute little babies, and
I marveled at how far they flew for a meal. Definitely way outside the
range of what can be smelled. So how they are guided their at the right
time is astounding.
The same with the life cycle of the Monarch Butterflies. It shows an
amazing intelligent design. I do question bees being taken out of their
area and put into a new one for pollination. I wonder if that is why
they do not return to their hives. They get out of sorts from where
their home actually is.
Near the end Disney Wings of Life goes a little over the top in its
Chicken Little the sky is falling theme. I do like the ideas it
presented at the end for growing a garden, and planting flowers. Cynics
would point out that is big business and those big businesses benefit
from your purchases. Hence they are happy to have products like Disney
Wings of Life on the market telling you to spend money on their
products.
I am one of those people who suffers from allergies, so flowers are not
my thing. But ever since I got married I love to grow fruits and
vegetables. Humans are one of the biggest pollinators that plants have.
It is a mutually beneficial relationship.
