Hands On! Tangrams

Enjoy Gaming has picked up multiple Nintendo DS games from Storm City Games. Hands On! Tangrams is one of those games. Players take various shapes and put them into a specific pattern. The goal is to get all of the shapes in there perfectly so it uses up the entire pattern. Sounds pretty simple right? Some are, and some are mindnumblingly insane to figure out. I beat some in under thirty seconds, and others took me ten minutes. This is based on a Chinese puzzle game. Parts of this hand held game reminds me of origami. The patterns usually correspond to something like a lion, elephant, fish, etc.

The background graphics in Hands On! Tangrams are great. I loved to see some of the artwork used. It is all cartoonish, fun, and safe for the family. The details may be lacking in some like the city zoo, but I am not quibbling. The pieces that are used could have used some sprucing up graphically in my opinion. I found no offensive images while playing Hands On! Tangrams on the Nintendo DSi. The limited animation is showing its age.

The music in Hands On! Tangrams reminds me of elevator music. Before you freak out, and think I am insulting this game, let me explain. The music is soothing, relaxing, and I believe promotes thought. It can also promote a nap, but I say that partially in jest. I found no offensive sounds, or words while playing Hands On! Tangrams.

There are over one hundred of these puzzles in this Nintendo DSi video game. All ages can spend a few weeks playing Hands On! Tangrams. I found that this hand held game can get addicting. I wanted to see what puzzle would come up next. Then I would defeat an entire section, and start all over in a new section. I believe that Hands On! Tangrams is worth the price of admission (as we like to say here at Family Friendly Gaming). Hands On! Tangrams is safe for the entire family, and promotes thought.

The touch screen controls are so smooth in Hands On! Tangrams. Moving the pieces around is simple, and easy to do. When they are put in place they lock there. Touch them again in case you want to move them around. There are a lot of little things done in the controls that go a very long way in making Hands On! Tangrams approachable by all ages. I had fun playing Hands On! Tangrams, as did others here at Family Friendly Gaming that played it. In fact this game has prompted lessons in sharing if you know what I mean.

Hands On! Tangrams teaches us to think about things in different ways. It also teaches finding the right pattern, and working towards the goal. I really enjoyed Hands On! Tangrams, and hope to see sequels to this franchise in the future. This game works perfectly on the Nintendo DSi. I wanted a sequel, but a port will tide me over for a bit.
