Harmoknight

Harmoknight is part action adventure side scrolling 3D game, and part music game. Odd combination? Yes and no. It works as long as you are in tune. If you march to your own beat, expect problems from here to band camp in Harmoknight. This is a downloadable Nintendo 3DS game.

Downloadable games have their pros and cons. The pro is they are usually cheaper in price. Especially when one considers retailers, and packaging are kept out of the loop. Traversing through the fifty levels in Harmoknight can be challenging. The biggest replay enters the fray when gamers have problems beating certain levels.

The art style in Harmoknight is fabulous. The 3D effects are really nice - especially when we are running away from (or toward) something. an issue parents may have with Harmoknight is the violence. The main character whacks enemies with a staff. There is also a female character that shoots monsters with a bow and arrow.

Players must complete enough levels to earn special items that open the way forward to the next levels. The better the player performs in a level of Harmoknight the higher chance they will earn that special item. Boss levels are completely different. The player must stay alive.

How do you stay alive in Harmoknight? By hitting the right buttons at the right intervals. It all goes along with the beat. This is easier said than done. Too often going just a fraction too early, or too late penalizes the player. There was not an option for an easy mode to give less skilled players a chance to see all of the levels in this 3DS game.

The music in Harmoknight is really good. Even if you are rhythm challenged like some of us. An easy mode would have gone a long way in Harmoknight. Maybe Game Freak will release an update to this hand held game. Or maybe it will make an appearance in a sequel.
