Hot Wheels World's Best Driver

Hot Wheels video games have not had the best track record over the years. In fact there have been some bad Hot Wheels based video games. There have also been some good Hot Wheels games. Excitement built here at Family Friendly Gaming for Hot Wheels World's Best Driver.

I found myself hoping for a fantastic racing experience out of Hot Wheels World's Best Driver. I did not realize I approached this home console game from the wrong perspective. Hot Wheels World's Best Driver is not a racing game. It is a mission based game.

What am I talking about? Hot Wheels World's Best Driver gives you a vehicle and a mission to complete. Something like score so many points by doing tricks in a certain amount of time. Or race this track in a certain amount of time. Also get to a certain speed on this straightaway.

Completing missions would be fine if there were not two issues with Hot Wheels World's Best Driver. The first one is the controls. They are too loose, making this home console game way too hard. Especially for kids who are the ones who are going to want to play Hot Wheels World's Best Driver.

The second issue with Hot Wheels World's Best Driver is it uses that app concept of collecting so many medals to unlock the next couple of missions. I literally spent hours trying to get a better score on something to get the right amount of medals to unlock something new. That was on level two trying to get to three. Too early in my opinion to hit that proverbial brick wall.

Players start in a sandbox like area. As we played we unlocked content. This content was added to this area. Hot Wheels World's Best Driver makes it easy to switch between the Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red teams. Each color has a different style of goals to complete.

There is a final problem I had with Hot Wheels World's Best Driver - the trainers. Their little sound bytes were aggravating, frustrating, negative, and sometimes offensive. They were downright mean spirited in what they had to say after I made a mistake due to loose controls, and extremely difficult to attain mission parameters.

Hot Wheels World's Best Driver contains multiplayer and online functionality. The confusing menu screens made it very difficult to find the local multiplayer mode. Hot Wheels World's Best Driver looks really nice, and there are some insanely awesome tracks in this game.

UPDATE {09/30/2013} On the second menu select screen is an option to play a level in Hot Seat Mode. This is what this game calls multiplayer. Up to four family members share a level - playing one family member at a time.
