Jewel Adventures

It is always nice to see the different ideas companies bring to the market. Jewel Adventures is the quintessential example of this. It is a downloadable Nintendo DSi game (also playable on the Nintendo 3DS) that is part match three, and part magician fighting off monsters.

The top screen of Jewel Adventures shows a mage fighting off monsters. The attacks the magical character wields all depends on the matching you do on the bottom screen. There are two main modes in Jewel Adventures - master mage and classic.

In classic mode you play until your character loses all their health. They will level up along the way which is nice. In master mage mode you play ten levels at a pop. Beat all ten, and then you acquire an artifact. The goal is to collect all of the artifacts in this hand held game.

There are two hundred and fifty different levels in Jewel Adventures. There are also twenty-five monsters to dispose of. The monsters come from the left of the screen and move towards the right. The right side is where your mage character is standing with their staff.

The graphics are a bit on the small side. The music in Jewel Adventures is fantastic. I was enjoying puzzle level after puzzle level. Mage mode has the player have to match certain tiles to complete it. Which means you may finish a level quickly, or it may take some time.

Levels in Jewel Adventures do feel a bit long to me for a hand held. Especially if you have to be at an appointment at a certain time. I did not always have time to just pick up, play, and put down. That whole ten levels at a pop thing is something I would like to see diminished in sequels.
