When you think of Natsume most gamers will reference the Harvest Moon franchise. They also have a long history of fishing games. Legend of the River King was released over a decade ago on the Gameboy Color. Recently Natsume released it on the Nintendo 3DS in the Virtual Console.

Family Friendly Gaming Nation can rejoice we have been provided a download code to review Legend of the River King. This game comes from a day when there were no tutorials to teach you how to play. You figured things out for yourself, asked your friends, or hoped one of the few gaming magazines had some info on it.

Your sister is sick and you are on a quest to catch a fish to save her. Yeah I was not really sure how the two related exactly either, but it gave me a goal worth pursuing. Legend of the River King looks good for its day. I was surprised the 3DS asked if I wanted to play in 3D.

The music is really neat in Legend of the River King. Yes they did not have as many channels back then, but it is a catchy tune. Characters around the areas will provide helpful hints. Expect to burn a lot of bait, and possibly hooks trying to catch fish in this hand held title.

There are also animals in Legend of the River King that will attack you. So Legend of the River King also contains turn based battles. It helps break up the monotony of losing fish and your bait. When you finally catch some fish you will feel like you made a major accomplishment. Perseverance pays off in Legend of the River King.

I want to offer our readers one really important tip in Legend of the River King. The size of the fish and the size of the hook are very important. Keep that in mind if you are not catching anything. To catch the fish after hooking them you need to wait for them to tire out. Then hit 'A' to reel them in. Let off 'A' if they start to run off again.
