Lego Lord of the Rings

Lego Lord of the Rings continues to be one of my personal favorite Lego games. I like this game on the home consoles, and Nintendo 3DS. What about the iOS platform? It took Warner Bros Interactive close to a year to get this game on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The wait is over, and families can enjoy it on the iOS platform.

An insane amount of levels I remember from the Nintendo 3DS version are faithfully represented in the iOS version of Lego Lord of the Rings. The size of this app is close to 1.4 gig. So make sure your devices have enough room. The $4.99 price is very reasonable for a game of this size. There are in app purchases included as well.

I am surprised at how good Lego Lord of the Rings looks. There are also sound bytes from the movies. They sound like little clips here and there during key movie moments. Character swapping is needed to get past certain obstacles in Lego Lord of the Rings.

The controls are what make or break any game. Lego Lord of the Rings offers players two distinctly different control schemes. There is a casual mode with touch screen controls only. There is also the option of having an on screen joystick and buttons.

I ran into problems with both control schemes in Lego Lord of the Rings on the iPhone. Things work much better on the iPad. It has to deal with the larger screen. Not being able to feel the controls is the biggest thing that holds Lego Lord of the Rings back.

Lego Lord of the Rings is a very playable game. I had to go back to do certain things, and things like jumping were a chore in the touch screen only controls. I had issues getting the studs bar filled since it is really easy to fall off ledges in this version. Lego Lord of the Rings works much better with a physical controller.

All in all Lego Lord of the Rings is a very impressive game. I marvel that this game could be ported to the iOS platform. Maybe next year Lego Marvel Super Heroes will appear on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. For now families can enjoy a major impressive release on the iOS platform.
