Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor
SCORE: 79
Until recently I did not even know there
were different flavors of Mahjong. Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor
takes the genre in a different way, and brings in some good things from
other games. We play a young prince as he takes on quests from the prime
minister. They can be things like building a bridge or fight a battle
against those trying to rebel against over-taxation.
You know that over-taxation issue is becoming huge in America right now,
so I can see millions identifying with it. In Mahjong 3D - Warriors of
the Emperor we are on the side of the government. The prince in Mahjong
3D - Warriors of the Emperor has a rebellious streak and a smart mouth.
He could use some serious discipline.
The player starts out on a map and picks which providence to interact
with. Then in that providence they pick which level to interact with.
The game will give us a bit of a story and then into the level we go. As
we move towards the tiles in 3D we get to stare at an idol of buddah.
Seemed an odd choice especially considering the super majority of
Americans self identify as Christians and not Buddist.
The controls in Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor are very unique.
The bottom screen looks like some form of parchment. We had a cursor on
the top screen. Where we tap on the bottom screen is where the cursor
will appear on the top screen. We hold the cursor over a tile and
release contact with the touch screen. That tile is not selected. We
make contact with the touch screen again, and move over to the matching
tile. Repeat the release to match them.
It took me some time to get used to the controls in Mahjong 3D -
Warriors of the Emperor. They do not feel natural. Once you get it,
Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor is very playable. Power ups have to
be earned in Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor. They are what help
you undo your last move - coincidentally that is all players have at
first.
The eighty levels in Conquest Mode, ninety levels in Quick Play, and
three difficulties will keep most family members busy for some time.
Where Mahjong 3D - Warriors of the Emperor really shines is the level
editor. The 3D effects are nice, and the far east music is relaxing. I
could have done without the smart mouth and the idols.
