Major Magnet

It can be so easy to ignore apps. Everybody and their brother is throwing something together thinking they are going to get rich. Major companies are throwing something out there with a brand name at a higher dollar, expecting to increase their quarterly profits. So many apps have let us down so many times before. Finally there are so many of the same thing on the app market.

All of that was going through my mind as it purged itself from Sony's announcement of the PS4. I continue to be open, honest, and transparent with our audience. I did not want to play Major Magnet. After all the apps I have seen in the last few years, and all of the bad memories - I was looking for any excuse to put this game off.

Like making a toddler eat peas, I forced myself to play Major Magnet. What I found in this app shocked me. This is a console quality game on this little tiny iOS machine. The animations, and art show high quality, as well as passing along a lot of humor. I was in shock at first. An intro movie, and then quick non-intrusive tutorial messages.

As I beat the first couple of levels I noticed something about Major Magnet. The music, and special effect sounds reminded me of arcade games. I know Major Magnet is influenced by Mario and Sonic, but I was not expecting a Capcom arcade influence as well.

The game play in Major Magnet is a mixture between Rotastic and any console game. Some levels have a large square playing field, and others are more rectangle. That is not what is important about Major Magnet. What you do in the game is what is important.

Our character in Major Magnet has a magnetic personality. He can rotate around round metal objects, fling himself to the next one, or go flying in any direction (for a short distance of course). We collect items in Major Magnet, and then find our way to the spinning vortex - which is the exit.

The little details in Major Magnet is what sets it apart. A lot of time and effort was put into this game. It shows too. I can easily see Major Magnet working on the Nintendo 3DS or Playstation Vita. Major Magnet is a top notch title that your family needs  check out.

There is a reason we say our seal of approval is rarely given. Only the top 2-4% of all products reviewed earn it. It is something special. We are not like some other sites that give it out to everybody. The Family Friendly Gaming seal of approval is only there for the truly special products we review. Major Magnet earns it.
