Mario & Luigi Dream Team

Nintendo finds clever ways to do different things in the Mario & Luigi franchise. Don't know (or remember) much about this franchise? It is a role playing series that is heavy on the action. If your timing is perfect then you can avoid taking damage during battles. There are exceptions to that of course.

Sleeping is the theme of Mario & Luigi Dream Team. Luigi can enter the dream world at certain locations. This is mainly used to free Pi'illo characters. Mario accompanies Luigi in the real world, and the dream world. Luigi is the one with the massive powers in the dream levels.

As with any role playing game, there are levels for the characters to attain. Leveling up increases stats which makes battling the enemies and bosses easier. Mario & Luigi Dream Team has a really cool feature when you lose a battle (giant boss battles are the exception). This Nintendo 3DS game will ask you if you want to try it in easy mode.

What is easy mode? This is where your characters (Mario and Luigi) are super powered, and can generally win the battle with less effort. You take less damage, and do more damage. The catch is this easy mode only works for that battle. The game will revert to normal right afterward. It does offer easy mode the next time you lose a battle.

Mario & Luigi Dream Team is easy at first. It will slowly turn up the heat to the point it is difficult for experienced gamers. Especially in the last couple of areas. There are numerous secrets to find and unearth in this action adventure role playing game.

This hand held game provides hints on where to go next. There are a few points in Mario & Luigi Dream Team where that is difficult to figure out. The best example is when players need to get to Wakeport. There are many odd characters in Mario & Luigi Dream Team. Some of them are used for comic relief in a comic mischief kind of way.

Mario & Luigi Dream Team is safer for families than most role playing games on the market. The easy mode is a welcome addition due to how difficult this game can be. It would have been nice to see that mode as a selectable option for the entire game.

Since many of the dream battles can be lengthy, you may be tempted to doze off. Doing so will most likely kill off Mario. Unless you want your health and BP instantly restored by going into the easy mode. Mario & Luigi Dream Team is long enough to warrant the purchase price. Veterans of the franchise will recognize many things in this 3DS game.
