Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures

The anticipation has been very high here at Family Friendly Gaming Nation for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. I am reviewing the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 home console version. This is a 3D action adventure platformer video game. I used the Xbox 360 version for this review.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures makes me think of characters like Mario and Sonic. Why? Pac-Man eats certain power pellets and gets a special power (and a new look), until he takes a hit. This can be a chameleon suit, fire, ice, a rock, and more. Yes we have Rock of Ages like levels in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. Or you might think of Marble Madness.

The main bad guy stole a machine from the town, and it is up to Pac-Man to save the day. Along the way we collect pellets, and ghost eyes. Yeah the whole ghost eyes thing is a bit gross. Pac-Man burps them up at the end of the level. Which is also on the gross side.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures changes up what the player has to do, and kind of levels at a very good click. I never got bored with doing certain things because it was constantly shifting. Maybe I was swinging with a long tongue, or rolling around as a rock. The diversity in the game play is one of the best things about Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures.

Pro tip for old school Pac-Man fans. You no longer need to eat a power pellet before eating a ghost. Players can chomp them up with Pac-Man immediately. Also collect as many pellets as possible. Certain areas require the player has so many pellets to progress further.

The school building is one of the coolest parts in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. I could talk to other characters, as well as play certain arcade mini games. Note you need to collect so many of certain items to play said arcade mini games. Still it is a nice little bonus.

I noticed some strange things in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. Auto targetting works great at times, and not other times. For example I would try and use the tongue to pull in a ghost, and just miss them. Which meant I had to reposition my character for another attempt. The camera can be a real pain at times, and not show you where you are going. Players can adjust the camera at will. Hitting switches on the wall as Rubber Pac can be a real pain too. Why? There are multiple layers even though it looks 2D in those sections. I had to bring myself off the back wall to hit those wall switches.

When it is all said and done Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures is a fun action adventure home console game. There are crude and rude moments in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. If your ten year old or older children can handle it, they will find a challenging action adventure platformer. This home console game puts an interesting new face on the Pac-Man franchise.
