Publisher Dream

Any of the members of Family Friendly Gaming Nation remember Bookstore Dream on the Nintendo DSi? Publisher Dream is the spiritual successor to that game. In Publisher Dream we take on the role of a small video game publisher. We develop different kinds of video games for the cShop market.

As I played Publisher Dream, I wondered how much of this game came from real world experiences. I drew connections to parts of Publisher Dream, and Circle Entertainment. The cShop is a thinly veiled reference to the eShop - which is where this game is purchased.

The biggest question I have concerning Publisher Dream is the fan mail. They start out with horrible comments trashing your puzzle, educational, and card games. As your employees level up they make better games. We are also able to make larger games when we receive a certain degree of success. Different game genres are also opened up at some point.

Publisher Dream can be boring to play at times. In fact I let it run by itself until messages came up requiring my attention. This is the kind of a game you can play while doing something else. Your attention is not needed 100% of the time. Planning is very important in this game since sales will diminish over time. Sales are bumped during certain seasons though.

Games are also removed from the cShop after being on the market for so many weeks. It is important to balance your employees with the money coming in. If you lose all your money you are provided 100K to keep things going. This will only happen a couple of times before the game will stop you. You also have so many years to go through.

Publisher Dream grew on me over time. The deeper I got into the game and the more I unlocked, the more I liked it. Publisher Dream is not for every member of the family, but it is safe for all of them. The only downside I see to Publisher Dream is the hate mail your company will receive.
