Puppeteer

Puppeteer is one of the most unique games in terms of presentation to enter Family Friendly Gaming Nation in some time. Players take on the role of a puppet. His head gets bitten off, so he uses other things as heads. A more fleshed out Dynamite Headdy concept. Puppeteer does not earn special powers with different heads. Instead he can interact with certain environments with certain heads.

The story telling in Puppeteer is top notch. That narrator can drone on and on about whatever is going on. If you are patient and listen to him you will get that back story. Sony went deep into the history of this brand new franchise. It is an odd world indeed.

Sony talks about how they are so different from other companies out there. Puppeteer is something that would probably be a good talking point for that opinion. Yet there are many tried and true mechanics in Puppeteer. From game play elements to story elements.

The story in Puppeteer revolves around a goddess. Something that all kinds of video games use. If Sony wanted to be different they should have put God in there instead. This bear steals from her to make himself king. A witch helps you the player in acquiring needed items to put the world back right. The bear tries to stop you at every turn.

Early on players steal a pair of magical scissors. These are the first weapon the player uses. Later on they get things like bombs. Scissors are used to cut things, and a way the player can fly through the air. How? By cutting things like leaves and moving up the vine.

After defeating an enemy players can free souls from these dark balloons. The boss characters have multiple balloons to free up. Puppeteer keeps track of how many souls you free after each long level. Boss levels are also extremely lengthy. All levels are broken up in multiple mini levels. The boss levels are broken up as well.

Players can expect to look everywhere to find all of the hidden goodies. Acquiring all of the heads can take some time. Sony was clever at hiding them all over these little levels. If you have a Playstation Move controller you can use it to play Puppeteer. Or you can use a normal regular PS3 controller.
