R-Type Dimensions

R-Type Dimensions includes R-Type and R-Type II completely remastered. If you are not educated into the R-Type franchise let me help out. These games are space shooters. You have a ship that blows away an invading alien armada. It is you against their military might. None of your friend show up until you beat the game.

R-Type Dimensions is like most space shooters - difficult, and tons of things on the screen. These things will try and shoot you, ram you, crush you against the floor or ceiling. In essence they are all out to kill you. They also outnumber you a few thousand to one.

The ESRB surprises me with an 'E' for Everyone rating with R-Type Dimensions. The level of violence makes me think this should be a 'T' for Teen rated game. We blow away thousands as we move from the left of the screen to the right. The screen scrolls at its own pace too.

Graphically R-Type Dimensions looks okay. It looks better in the remastered than the original; however it does not look that great to my eyes. Things are flying around so fast it can be easy to lose track of your ship. Which I did on more than one level. Multiple family members can join in the violent fray.

R-Type Dimensions has two important modes - classic or infinite. In classic you have only so many lives to make it through the game or it is game over. In infinite you have as many lives as you need to make it through the game. R-Type Dimensions will tell you how many lives you used which can be depressing.

The problem with the two modes is either you blitz through the game and are done in one sitting, or you can never get very far. So the choice is insanely difficult or too easy to even try. I wonder if Tozai Games is going to try to remaster something like Gates of Thunder.
