Rise of Venice

Kalypso Media continues to impress Family Friendly Gaming Nation with their well thought out simulation games. Rise of Venice is no exception. In fact this game impresses me on multiple levels. This Personal Computer game can be a great educational tool in terms of economics.

At some point in your schooling you probably heard about supply and demand. Or maybe your parents taught you this basic economic principal. Rise of Venice expands upon this in a marvelous fashion. The quantity of an item you purchase will impact the buying price.

The core of Rise of Venice is trading. Players want to buy low in one city, and sell for higher in another city. Knowing and understanding the factors that impact a price in any given area is important. Families will have a little learning curve. However there is an ability to save at any point. Or to go back to an earlier save.

The story in Rise of Venice contains mystery and intrigue. The grandson of a mercenary is asked to take a different path. To become a trader and build the families prestige. This means trading intelligently, and dealing with political pressures. Rising to power means someone else will lose it. They are not keen on any upstarts. So be careful as you climb that ladder up.

Rise of Venice is gorgeous to look at. The sea, ships, cathedrals, houses, port cities and more look great. Naval battles are a part of Rise of Venice. So be aware of the possibility of having to battle it out via cannons. These are generally pretty short.

The voice acting is neat to hear since the voices are so unique. The music in Rise of Venice is pleasant to listen to while keeping citizens fed, and growing your wealth. You do have to pay licenses to new cities, and you also have to discover them in the first place.

Rise of Venice is one of those games that can literally be played for months. There are online modes for those who like to play games with others across the Internet. The depth in terms of ranks, items, and cities is impressive in Rise of Venice. I am thankful I was able to play and review this PC game.
