Skylanders SWAP Force
SCORE: 85
Skylanders
is big in the world of video games and toys. This Activision franchise
is so big that it caught the attention of Disney in the Disney Infinity
video game franchise. Skylanders SWAP Force is the third major game in
the Skylanders franchise. Spyro is pretty much gone now. He started it
off, and then has been left behind.
Kaos is back in Skylanders SWAP Force for the Wii U/Wii/PS3/Xbox 360. We
also get to meet HIS MOM! For all of our Regular Show readers. Don't
worry if you did not get the joke. There are people who did, and they
are laughing hysterically. Probably laughing so hard they are crying.
Skylanders SWAP Force has portal masters (that is us gamers) travel to a
giant volcano that replenishes the magic in the realm. This is done
thanks to four huge elemental creatures. Which means we have to go get
them, bring them to the volcano safely and stop Kaos. With plenty of
side trips along the way.
Kaos is using dark rocks to evilize his own creations. He wants to
evilize one of the monster elemental creatures so the volcano becomes
evil. When the volcano erupts the magic it sends out will be evil. I
think there are easier ways to achieve that goal, but I am not Kaos.
Skylanders SWAP Force continues the tradition of humorous cut scenes. In
fact the best part of this game in my opinion is the dialogue. These
characters are funny. It is nice to see so much humor in this game.
Something Disney Infinity is missing in my opinion.
The swapping concept in Skylanders SWAP Force is pretty cool. It is
awesome to easily swap in and out different skills thanks to the top and
the bottom half having their very own skills to purchase. The toys fit
together nicely even if they are polar opposites.
Old Skylander characters including Giants can be used in Skylanders SWAP
Force. In fact there are certain places where Giant characters are
needed to open specific chests. Older Skylander characters can be
leveled up higher in Skylanders SWAP Force.
The longer I played Skylanders SWAP Force the more I saw. This home
console game is constantly opening up new features. The Arena is there
for competitive gamers. Portal masters level up themselves now based on
how many missions they completed in levels.
Levels can get boring since there is so much violence. I would shoot all
the enemies, shoot the boxes, and collect the valuables. Then go to the
next room and do the same thing. Sometimes there are puzzles to solve,
but they are mainly move this box here. Some of the puzzles had more
than one box to be moved. The solutions are always easy to see. There
are only six skills for the top portion, and six for the bottom portion,
so Skylanders SWAP Force is a bit limited in terms of special skills.
The undead characters make a return. As do the other elemental types.
Skylanders SWAP Force adds the base type of different skills. Like a
teleport skill, or a ladder skill. These open up specific mini levels
within the main levels. I swapped characters a lot in levels to unlock
all of the content. Which meant getting up and walking over to the
portal since it is wired to the video game console.
