The Smurfs 2

If you loved the video game adaptation of the first Smurfs movie then you are in for a surprise in the home console version of The Smurfs 2. This Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and Wii game is a side scrolling action adventure game. Sort of like New Super Mario Bros Wii or New Super Mario Bros Wii U.

Families can take up to four Smurfs with them into a level. Why would you want to do that? Because each Smurf has a different ability. Some of these are helpful in getting to secret areas, and others are helpful dealing with the enemies. Plus you can work on your team work.

In our case it started out with a lack of team work. In fact there was a lot of fussing due to one player knocking another into spikes. Once we learned to work together in The Smurfs 2 the experience improved drastically. Then we learned to pick good teams, and how to use our skills together.

There are tons of Smurfberries in The Smurfs 2 to collect. There are also gold coins. Acquire enough gold coins and you unlock a character. These characters populate the Smurf village. Beating bosses unlocks playable characters. So there are reasons to replay levels, and to replay after beating the game.

The realistic looking graphics and characters pop off the screen in The Smurfs 2. I love how great this home console game looks. I also enjoyed the voices, and the singing in The Smurfs 2. There is another opinion though. There are some here at Family Friendly Gaming who got tired of the Smurf song that plays when enough of a certain item is collected.

When I first started to play The Smurfs 2 I thought it would be a weekend rental kind of game. As I dug deeper into the game, and all of the unlockables I realized The Smurfs 2 lasts much longer than that. The Smurfs 2 is a solid platformer that families can enjoy together.
