Wreck-It Ralph

It is a real treat for me to watch and review Wreck-It Ralph on Blu-ray + Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy (Ultimate Collector's Edition). This movie could arguably be the best video game related movie of all time. Like Toy Story, Wreck-It Ralph gives us a behind the scenes look at video game characters from an arcade.

Wreck-It Ralph is a video game where Ralph (the bad guy) wrecks the apartment building. The the people moved his stump to build their building in the same spot. So he Rampages his way to the top breaking things. Fix-It Felix Jr is the hero who fixes the building with his magic hammer.

After thirty years of being thrown off the building, Wreck-It Ralph wants more out of his life. The rest of the cast of the game shuns him at social events. He attends a support group for bad guys where we are treated with some fantastic characters from a wide array of games. Part of the fun of watching Wreck-It Ralph is finding all the hidden Easter eggs.

Wreck-It Ralph has a really neat intermission feature. Pause the movie, and wait five seconds. We are treated to a wide array of hidden things to look for in the movie. Long time gamers will be looking all over the place to find some of the cool hidden cameos. Many games are represented in Wreck-It Ralph.

The creators of Wreck-It Ralph had a difficult time in aspects like presenting the 8-bit world. Bonus features like Bit by Bit Creating the Worlds of Wreck-It Ralph are very educational. I also enjoyed the deleted scenes, and the video game commercials. That intermission is one of the best bonuses in my opinion.

Wreck-It Ralph goes on a quest to earn a medal. Then the apartment dwellers will let him stay in the building instead of our in the dump. He goes into a game called Hero's Duty. This is a military style shooter where alien bugs must be exterminated. The time we spend in this world can be scary to younger viewers.

The next world we visit is Sugar Rush Speedway. A candy based kart racing title. This game not only looked good, but has all kinds of potential as a console game. We have shocks and surprises as the ramifications of Wreck-It Ralph actions impact other games - including his own.

I won't spoil anything else from Wreck-It Ralph for you. I will say there were some surprises that I was not expecting. I appreciate how negatives were turned into positives. I also like Wreck-It Ralph. He was playing a bad guy in the game, but he was not really a bad guy.

Gamers will go ga-ga over Wreck-It Ralph. There is so much history in this movie. From Sonic the Hedgehog, to an old cheat code. Characters like Q-bert are brought back. Cameos from a wide array of characters. The Street Fighter characters are some of my personal favorite.
