Zoo Tycoon
SCORE: 86
It is awesome to see Zoo Tycoon release on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We received some reader complaints on how much more content was planned for the Xbox One version. I understand those concerns. Companies do this though. They want to encourage upgrades. If the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions were exactly the same there would be no reason to upgrade to the Xbox One. Consumers would buy the cheapest version for the system they already owned.
Zoo Tycoon looks nice on the Xbox One. To me I guess I expected it to look leaps and bounds better. There are additional animals in the Xbox One version of Zoo Tycoon. Which is to be expected. They all look very realistic. As do the new animal themed buggies. Those are really cool, and an amazing surprise after we finished our first zoo.
Families will be shocked to find the evolutionary religious belief system in the Xbox One version of Zoo Tycoon. This issue has become extremely controversial and divisive in our culture. It would have been more intelligent to leave it out. Hopefully future versions of Zoo Tycoon will avoid that mine field.
I enjoy hearing the animals make sounds in Zoo Tycoon. Almost as much as I enjoy designing a park. I just wish I could make my parks larger. Reaching capacity happens too quickly in my humble opinion. I want to make these monster sized zoos that contain every single animal in the game. Zoo Tycoon does not let me achieve that goal.
Zoo Tycoon contains numerous modes, challenges, and locations. There are plenty of animals to interact with. There is also Smartglass interaction in the Xbox One version of Zoo Tycoon. Microsoft is also planning on having goals for players to reach for conservation efforts. They will try and save real world animals based on players reaching certain goals in the game for specific events.
The verbal commands work marvelously well in the Xbox One version of Zoo Tycoon. In fact they work way better than anything in the Xbox 360 version. There are over one hundred different animals in this version of Zoo Tycoon. Some of them are more interesting than others.
Hopefully
you read my review for the Xbox 360 version of Zoo Tycoon. I had a
complaint about the reptiles and where they were housed. Playing through
Zoo Tycoon a second time made me realize how difficult it is to find
certain habitats for specific animals. For example you earn a giant
tortoise. Where does he go? It can be a pain trying to different
habitats to see if the animal is there. It would be nice to say you want
to put an animal somewhere and choices of habitats come up.
