Angels in Stardust
SCORE: 52
Angels in
Stardust is the most convoluted, confusing, confounding, and depressing
movie I have seen all year long. AJ Michalka, Alicia Silverstone, and
Billy Burke star in this movie that dragged on during its one hundred
minute duration. Sadly there is not much of a pay off at the end either.
Vallie Sue is a teenage girl with an imaginary cowboy friend. Her mother
is messed up in the head chasing after any man who might get her out of
the trailer park. Her brother is mentally challenged, slow, and needs
glasses. A neighbor believes in UFO's while lounging around in her
flamboyant attire.
Neighbor men have their way with the young women as often as possible.
In fact the the poor image of sex in Angels in Stardust can give anyone
nightmares. This movie is in no way acceptable for children to watch.
Another neighbor is an Indian (Native American) whom the mother
despises.
The level of selfishness from the characters in Angels in Stardust is
crazy. There is a general lack of modesty among almost all the
characters. A small glimpse of faith is shown, but generally ignored by
those living consistently for themselves.
The bad language in Angels in Stardust goes along with the bad
attitudes. Most of the men are shown as horrible people. Most of the
women are shown that way as well though. There really is only one male
character shown in a good light, and one female character shown in a
good light.
As if all of this were not bad enough, Angels in Stardust feels
disconnected. There are different skits here and there that does not
always connect with the others in a way that makes sense. It is like
needed sections were cut out. I was constantly guessing what was going
on.
The level of alcohol is high. The level of selfishness is high. Plenty
of scummy closed minded people who will not listen to a better way to
live. Poor people are shown as nasty in Angels in Stardust. The rich are
not shown in a much better light either.
There are so many depressing and disturbing moments in Angels in
Stardust. From the attempted rape, to a mother leaving her kids to live
for herself. Vallie Sue finally gets out of there. Partially due to
deception. Does she make in the big world? We don't know.
