Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest in the second wave of Marvel films. We see more of Thanos, and also get closer to one of the Infinity Stones. Those things are powerful, and very dangerous. We also meet a team of well I am not sure how to categorize them. They end up as heroes but do not start that way.

In some ways Guardians of the Galaxy remind me of those Shadowrun novels from last century. People on the wrong side of the law who do the right thing to save the galaxy. After all a whole lot of death and destruction is going to be bad for their business.

Guardians of the Galaxy introduces us to Star Lord (Peter Quill), Gamora, Rocket, Drax, and Groot. Star Lord is human looking, Gamora is green, Rocket is a racoon, Drax is blueish, and Groot is a plant/tree creature. Together they make up the Guardians of the Galaxy. Batista is Drax for all of those pro wrestling fans out there.

Expect quite a bit of action in Guardians of the Galaxy. The explosions, and death are all over this movie. Thankfully some of the sickest parts are not shown on camera. We get to experience the aftermath like the blood flowing after a killing blow. The bad guys in Guardians of the Galaxy are really bad.

I was not expecting so much bad language, and obscene gestures in Guardians of the Galaxy. I did expect the enticement to lust issues. This is a comic book based movie. Comic books have been a long time offender in this arena. I know plenty of women who refuse to read comic books because of how women are portrayed.

The special effects and high tech toys in Guardians of the Galaxy are fantastic. There are humorous moments that everyone can enjoy. Most of them are based around Groot - who steals the show in quite a few scenes. Be sure to watch past the credits for an interesting scene.

There are some fun bonus features on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy. There are featurrettes, deleted scenes, gag reel, commentary and info. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a Blu-ray disc of Guardians of the Galaxy for this review.

If you are into super hero movies, then you should dig Guardians of the Galaxy. There are some unanswered questions in Guardians of the Galaxy. At the end we find out they will return. I am curious to find out about the origins of Star Lord. There are hints left about his father, but nothing concrete.
