How to Train Your Dragon 2
SCORE: 48
I loved How to Train Your Dragon on the Playstation 3 (PS3). Flying
around the island, training the dragons, landing when I came near the
ground, all kinds of different activities, and characters from the movie
made it one fun movie based video game. My excitement level to review
How to Train Your Dragon 2 on the 3DS was in the clouds.
My first experience with How to Train Your Dragon 2 was the controls. I
move the joystick left and my dragon (Toothless) goes left. I press it
to the right and we go to the right. I press up, and we go down. I press
down and we go up. This confused me so badly that I had to get help
finding where the options were. Why? So I could fix the up and down.
I then started going through tutorial levels. There are a variety of
different flying mini games we can do. Like flying through rings, racing
others flying through rings, shooting things, picking up sheep and
dropping them in a target, and more. There are also tokens hidden all
over the island, and challenges.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 taught me to be careful when flying close to
the ground. I could knock my dragon rider off, and watching him
helicopter spin away in a very stiff pose. Appropriate sound bytes would
play when I did this. The same thing happened when I did something good
like actually fly through a ring, or collect a token.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 looks meh. How to Train Your Dragon 2 on the
3DS is scaled way down from the home console versions. I got a headache
after lengthy game play sessions. How to Train Your Dragon 2 treats
water just like the ground.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 requires constant adjustments when flying. In
How to Train Your Dragon I could fly level and straight without any
adjustments. I feel that How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a step down from
the original How to Train Your Dragon video game. I miss being able to
land anywhere. I miss going under water. I miss stable cameras - the one
in How to Train Your Dragon 2 spun around when I did those quick turns.
