Inazuma Eleven

Inazuma Eleven on the Nintendo 3DS is one of the strangest role playing games. This downloadable game is based entirely on soccer. Actually an anime that is based on soccer. How are battles fought? In turn based, or strategy based battles? No. They are fought by playing impromptu soccer matches everywhere.

Inazuma Eleven has the distinction of having the longest role playing game battles I have ever played. When your player gets close to another player and the soccer ball is involved, you are provided a couple of choices. Pick wrong and you lose the ball, or they blow past you. Worse case scenario they score a goal on you.

The battle system is my personal biggest issue with Inazuma Eleven. There is a time limit on the soccer matches in Inazuma Eleven. If you do not score, then you lose some of your points. Those prestige points are important in doing things like healing your characters. There are other battles like get the ball from the opponent. There are also skill improvement spots in this 3DS game.

The anime movies in Inazuma Eleven are spectacular. As are the special moves characters use. God hand was one of the most interesting defenses I have ever seen - it is a huge hand that stops the ball. Of course you can not use these all of the time - so be strategic about using them.

The characters in Inazuma Eleven are on the small side. Parts of this hand held game felt like a retro game to me. Practicing in early areas is very important in Inazuma Eleven. The grinding in this game can take much longer since playing soccer matches is how leveling up is done mainly.

If you are not into the standard role playing games then Inazuma Eleven may be for you. If you are looking for a different kind of role playing game experience then Inazuma Eleven may also be for you. Expect to spend many hours working on your team to be successful. Then maybe you will want to play other real player's teams.
