Jewel Match

This last week Family Friendly Gaming Nation saw quite a few interesting games participate in the Nintendo downloads press release. Numerous Nintendo DSi games that are playable on the Nintendo 3DS were released. Jewel Match was one of those games.

I know some of ya'll may be thinking the name of Jewel Match sounds familiar. Well it should since it was not that long ago I reviewed Jewel Match 3 on the Nintendo 3DS. Jewel Match is not as advanced as Jewel Match 3. Which is something I expected.

If you read my reviews then you know how I feel about match three video games. I like them, I love them, and I play many of them. I really get into the ones that allow us to build up empires while playing through the levels. Jewel Match comes with 150 levels. They can be played in relaxed, normal, or two player modes.

In the normal play mode of Jewel Match there is a timer. Levels need to be completed in a certain amount of time. You can use extra lives to get a few more minutes if you so choose. With so many blocks to make matches on, it can be difficult to get them all in the time allocated.

I like relaxed mode in Jewel Match. There is no timer, and the tools still build. So I can hammer out a block once that tool has completely powered up with matches. Chains over certain blocks can be a real pain, and require some strategy to beat.

Jewel Match is selling for $4.99 before taxes on the Nintendo eShop. Which is a little high in my opinion since this game is a port, and for one dollar more you can purchase Jewel Match 3. Which is more advanced in every single way.

I hope some day Joindots will do a collection of the Jewel Match games on a physical copy cartridge that could be sold in stores. I use different DS devices at different times, so it would be nice to be able to take the game with me no matter which 3DS/2DS/DSi hand held device I have with me at that time.
