Maleficent

Maleficent is a live remake of the Sleeping Beauty franchise. There is one really important difference. Maleficent is told from the perspective of the evil queen. It felt like watching a film based on Stalin's atrocities from Stalin's perspective. Maleficent finds way to justify her horrendous acts.

The story telling in Maleficent tries to move the viewer to be sympathetic to the evil character. I wonder if that sympathy will be applied to greedy corporate executives, corrupt politicians, or polluters? All of them must have reasons for what they do too.

The changes to the story do not end there either. Maleficent redefines Sleeping Beauty in other important ways. Instead of prince charming breaking the curse, it is Maleficent herself that breaks the curse. Because she loves Sleeping Beauty like a daughter.

Maleficent deals with spirits, fairies, magic, and magical creatures. Humans are shown as bad. In fact most male characters are shown as bad. But then Hollywood has been attacking men for many years, so its not exactly anything new for them to be trashing men, and making women look good and strong.

There are some violent war scenes in Maleficent. The magical creatures are hording all kinds of treasures away from the humans. When the humans try to show their interest in sharing they are vicious murdered, and run off. There are also scary images and scenes in Maleficent.

Family Friendly Gaming was provided the Blu-ray + DVD combo + Digital HD of Maleficent for this review. Please note the cost/value of this review is way above the cost/value of this product. There are numerous behind the scenes where the mentality of the story is shown.
