Mario Golf World Tour

On May 2, 2014 families were presented with a dilemma. To purchase Kirby Triple Deluxe or to purchase Mario Golf World Tour. Both of these games are on the Nintendo 3DS. Both come in the wonderful physical copy version, and the downloadable version.

As the economy continues to sputter along, families have to be frugal. They have to pick and choose with their purchases. Which is right for you? It comes down to what kind of a game you would like to play. Do you like golf video games? Do you like side scrolling action adventure video games?

Mario Golf World Tour is a golf video game. Done with Mario, Luigi, and plenty of characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. Plus you can play with your own Mii characters. If you like to watch them hit a golf ball down the fairway. And then there is putting on the green.

Mario Golf World Tour tries to be all things to all skill sets. There are multiple control schemes, handicaps, modes, and tournaments. Mario Golf World Tour is actually really heavy into those tournaments. You can even compare yourself to other players around the world. If you are into that kind of a thing.

The biggest area for improvement in Mario Golf World Tour is the saving. I would play nine holes and want to stop and save. This is a hand held video game after all. I should be able to quit and go live my real life for a bit. I could quit, or continue - those were the only two options in this hand held game. I know, I know, I could put the 2DS into sleep mode. But the battery gets drained. Saving is a better option.

This biggest shock to me in Mario Golf World Tour is DLC. Yes after purchasing this golf game with Mario in it, you can also pay more money for some additional content. I believe in paying once for a game. Companies that make games should finish it before releasing it. Not going to families asking for more money for more content.

Mario Golf World Tour is like most golf games. It is difficult to putt. The slope is shown by arrows going a certain direction. There is no guide to show you where the ball is going to go. I love it when golf games do that. Mario Golf World Tour makes you guess. Hopefully you get it right or this game causes real world stress, irritation, and frustration.

Mario Golf World Tour contains plenty of items, characters, and courses. It will even make you play an entire course in Castle Club to get your handicap. Want a tip? Do poorly when they preview you for your handicap. Then play really well to improve dramatically.

The best feature in Mario Golf World Tour is all the special effects. The trail behind your ball can become a rainbow. Your character will grab a star and run around when you do well. Too bad it did not help me on the next hole. Mario sights and sounds are all over this solid golfing title.
