The puzzle element is only part of Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy on the Nintendo 3DS. There is also progressing the story along and solving the mystery. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy reminds me of Nancy Drew mysteries. Things are not as they seem.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is the sixth hand held version of the Professor Layton franchise. This 3DS game is also the third game in the second trilogy. What does all that mean? Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy has a certain pedigree within the video game industry.

The cut scene movies in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy are beautiful. The 3D effects are smooth, and stunning. The voice acting is good, very prim and proper. Which fits the era and age this game represents. I especially love the celebrations when I could actually figure out a puzzle.

The puzzles in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy can be frustrating, annoying, and difficult. There are hints you can use to get some idea how to solve them. Hints use up hint coins which can be found on most screens. They are a limited resource so be careful using them.

I adore the magnifying glass controls in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. They make searching a screen very easy. It also helps with finding those hint coins that are hidden all over the place. Trust me you will want to find as many hint coins as possible.

The best thing about Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is the characters and their interactions. They have wonderful personalities that feed off one another. The writing is almost as good as what my hubby has written - especially his Video Game Lies book.
