Pure Chess

Finally the Playstation 4 gets a family friendly video game on it. It only took five months, and unfortunately Pure Chess is not an exclusive. So families can play it on other systems too. Actually it is better on those other systems too. Which is another mark against the expensive brick we call the PS4.

Pure Chess is all about chess. We can play certain scenarios, games (local and online), and be trained in how to play chess. Pure Chess will make you think. It might even frustrate, irritate, agitate, and annoy you. It depends on what level of difficulty you are on versus your skills.

The graphics look nice in Pure Chess. The sounds are relaxing. It does feel a bit too quiet to me at times though. Especially when I was listening for something, and was put in check. That sound freaked me out. What made it worse was I did not see it coming.

I played a few games of Pure Chess on the Wii U. I was hoping to report Pure Chess on the PS4 was so much better. Two things - Sony is not paying me to say that; and I am not drinking the kool-aid Sony puts out there. The controls in Pure Chess on the PS4 was clunky. All because of the design of the PS4 controller. Which is abysmal. Pure Chess controls way better on the Wii U. It also controls way better on the 3DS.

Pure Chess is one of the best games currently on the Playstation 4 for families. The biggest down side to Pure Chess is it is a downloadable only title. So families that buy video games at retail will not be able to purchase it. Since Sony has a hacking record of losing credit card information, families have a hard time trusting them with sensitive data.
