Sokomania 2

Do you know what I like most about puzzle games? They make me think. I have to analyze a problem, and try to find the right solution. Do you know what I don't like about puzzle games? Getting stuck with no idea how to solve a specific puzzle.

Sokomania 2 on the Nintendo DSi (also playable on the Nintendo 3DS) is a downloadable puzzle game with one hundred puzzles. You will not find Sokomania 2 at any local store. It is only on the Nintendo eShop. The good news it is sells for $1.99. That is before taxes are taken out.

The puzzles in Sokomania 2 can get hard. If you get stuck, then you are stuck. There are no hints we earn or build while playing. If you can not solve a level you can't do anything else in the game. Since you have to beat a level to unlock the next one. I wish there was some way to bypass levels, or some hint on how to beat a level.

Sokomania 2 has small graphics with minimal visual effects. I like watching one of those blocks freeze over when I moved them over to the right spot. The water effects are not as impressive. Our main character is odd looking. We see him from a ceiling view.

The music in Sokomania 2 is nice. I enjoyed the upbeat, and exciting special effect sounds in this hand held video game. I love the celebration sounds when a level is completed in Sokomania 2. I also appreciate the variety of interactive objects in Sokomania 2 like pressure plates, doors that open and close, and more.

Sokomania 2 does not provide any tutorial on what needs to be done. I suggest using the rewind in the right places, and restarting levels from the top when you are really stuck. Sometimes something happens at the beginning of the level that is important. Timing can be everything in some levels of Sokomania 2. Other levels require careful consideration.

UPDATE: There actually is a way to skip levels in Sokomania 2. Players are provided ten keys at the beginning of the game. Allowing them to skip ten levels. Apologies for missing that. Thanks to the developer for pointing it out.
