Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric on the Wii U is a different kind of Sonic the Hedgehog video game. It completely redefines the franchise. Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is also the most well rounded and balanced Sonic video game of all time. We do more in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric than just dash from place to place.

There is an in depth, and very deep storyline in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. The humor among the various characters is apparent from the beginning. The characters in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric are fleshed out better than ever before. I enjoyed their little barbs and comments about one another.

We have a giant world we can explore and find a variety of secrets in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. I enjoyed going from place to place finding content. We have speed running levels that are a lot like the Sonic Dash app. We have puzzle areas, and we have fighting areas.

The time travel elements of Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric are written perfectly. As a published author I can marvel at the talent exhibited in the writing of Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. As well as the previously mentioned character banter. Big Red Button Entertainment knows what they are doing. All of the known Sonic elements are in this game.

There are plenty of gorgeous looking cut scenes in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. I really got into the storyline of Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric thanks to the many cut scenes. That game looks good in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, and I loved being able to move the camera around at my own leisure.

The power glyphs in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric are a nice touch. We can upgrade the four characters in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric with a variety of different skills. These are usually found thanks to mini quests one of the many characters in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric offers.

Early on in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric we are given a friendship bracelet that lets us pull certain objects, and to zip line down others. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy are fantastic characters to play in Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. I hope there is a sequel to this game in upcoming years.

Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is not the Sonic video game I was expecting. I am not big on the fighting portion of Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. It gets dull quick. The puzzle, open world, and speed elements are fantastic. The cut scenes tie this game together in a way that has made me a believer in this home console franchise.
