Steamworld Dig

Take some robots, the Wild West, and digging. What do you have with those three combined? I can tell you what Image & Form came up with. They came up with Steamworld Dig. This game has appeared on multiple different systems. I am reviewing the Wii U version.

I must get a few things out of the way in this home console video game review. Steamworld Dig is a downloadable only video game. Apologies to the millions in the physical copy movement. There is not a physical copy of Steamworld Dig on the market - yet. There is some violence in Steamworld Dig as well.

The core gameplay mechanic in Steamworld Dig is digging. We dig down in a mine finding all kinds of treasures. We also come across enemy characters. Our robot hero swings a pickaxe. He can use this as a weapon against the nasties found underground.

Steamworld Dig feels like an enhanced, improved, and fully fleshed out Mr Driller game. Steamworld Dig has a slower pace than Mr Driller. You really need to plan out your moves in Steamworld Dig. You can get yourself stuck in some places by making the hole too wide.

We find treasures while digging down in Steamworld Dig. These are brought back up to town and sold. Then we can enhance our equipment with the money we earn. The main key and goal in Steamworld Dig is exploration. We are searching down in the depths of this mine.

Steamworld Dig is more relaxing than I expected. There is something fun about exploring deep down in the depths. I ran into issues here and there progressing the storyline. I was not always good at finding where to go next. End of the day, Steamworld Dig is a fun games families can get into. Just remember to take your time and smell the roses. Or in Steamworld Dig case it is smell the oil, grease, and dirt.
