Table Top Racing

Table Top Racing is a free app on the iOS and Android platform. It has been ported over to the PS Vita. The avalanche of apps going over to the home consoles and hand helds is becoming crystal clear. So is Table Top Racing free on the PS Vita? No.

Table Top Racing must have removed the in app purchases right? No. It is selling for $7.99 here in the United States. You can play Table Top Racing without purchasing additional coins. You won't be able to grind out the coins though. Which seems a bit on the weird side.

The look of the backgrounds in Table Top Racing reminds me of Super Toy Cars on the Wii U. Table Top Racing does not look as good as that Wii U game, but the PS Vita is a lot less powerful. Table Top Racing looks neat in terms of the cars, and tracks.

The ESRB has egg on their face with Table Top Racing. They gave it an 'E' for Everyone with no descriptors at all. Apple gave this hand held game a 9+ rating with this descriptor: 'Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence.' I played Table Top Racing and found Mario Kart like violence in Table Top Racing. The ESRB needs to send us a payment each of these times we find their mistakes.

Table Top Racing is a bit limited on the tracks and vehicles. Upgrades can be performed to the vehicles, and you will need to implement them. Races can be tough without the upgrades. There are ten vehicles and eight race tracks. Sounds about right for a repeat pay to play app. Low for a PS Vita video game.

Table Top Racing is a downloadable only video game. Your family is denied the right to go to your local store and purchase a cartridge. Which is a real shame, especially with the momentum the physical copy movement has been making in 2014.

The music is decent, and the tracks are fun to race. The AI of the other racers is limited at best. I also felt like many of the race tracks felt similar. I could almost always predict what was coming up next. I wish there was a way to see how close the other racers are when I was out in first.

The verdict is Table Top Racing is a fun little racer with a few interesting modes. It does not bring anything new to the table, and it shows its free app roots. Some additional work was needed to make this a competitive racer on the PS Vita. I hope that happens in a sequel.
