Teslagrad

You know how we usually find mistakes made by the ESRB? Normally they missed descriptors that they could have caught if they would have spent five minutes with the game. I have lost track of how many times they rated a game with a lower rating than it actually deserved.

Teslagrad goes the other direction. The ESRB gave Teslagrad a 'T' for Thirteen and Older Only rating. In my humble opinion Teslagrad should have earned an 'E10+' rating for everyone ten years old and older. The violent content is light, and players respawn in the room quickly. PEGI gave Teslagrad a 7+ rating.

What kind of a game is Teslagrad? It is a 2D side scrolling puzzle game. It reminds me of so many similar games on the Personal Computer. It did not surprise me to see Teslagrad on Steam. And it costs less too. I have never found PC gaming to be comfortable. I wish the Wii U was more competitive in pricing.

There are no voices, and no dialogue in Teslagrad. I had to watch to find out what was going on. That also meant at times the interpretation was up to me. Which is a really dangerous thing for any developer to do. Cause I can come up with really off the wall explanations.

Teslagrad looks nice, and it sounds nice. I loved hearing musical instruments I do not normally hear in a video game. And ya'll know me, I am not one of those artsy people either. You would have to pay me handsomely to attend a symphony. With all of that disclosed, I liked the music in Teslagrad.

My main complaint against Teslagrad is getting stuck. I would get stuck in certain rooms for a long amount of time. It would lead to an eventual solution or high levels of frustration. I also had problems figuring out where to go when a new tool would open up additional areas. I wish the map would point places to go or something. Some kind of a hint or assistance system for the casual gamers. I can see some gamers just giving up, and never coming back. Which is a shame because they would miss some cool stuff.
