Weapon Shop de Omasse

Weapon Shop de Omasse is one of the most clever and interesting titles to be released in 2014. This downloadable game on the Nintendo 3DS is a different take on the role playing game genre. Instead of playing the hero, we play the blacksmith. Heroes rent weapons from us.

How does this work exactly? The better weapon you create in Weapon Shop de Omasse, the better chances the hero will survived. When heroes survive they pay you money for the rental. When they die you lose the materials to make the weapon.

There is a horrible, mean, and nasty evil character that the heroes are trying to take down. Weapon Shop de Omasse lets you the player supply them with the weapons so that they may succeed. This is done in a rhythm like tapping game. It takes a little getting used to. Players are also able to polish weapons up - very important.

There is a set amount of time in each day of Weapon Shop de Omasse. You might be doing one thing, and someone comes in with an order. They interrupt what you were working on. Which in some ways makes Weapon Shop de Omasse feel like a time management game. Who thought time management and RPG could work well together?

Certain characters in Weapon Shop de Omasse have horrible language. I wish there was a feature to have a more family friendly dialogue with these characters. Certain characters could have used some more clothing. This was another missed opportunity to give families a safe mode.

I like that Level-5 left some of the RPG crutches behind to make an interesting and fascinating game in Weapon Shop de Omasse. I wish they would have taken it farther. Lose the enticement to lust, and bad language in sequels. Or at the very least give families the option to have a family friendly mode. A larger audience could be reached, and the overall experience would have been even better.
