When the Game Stands Tall
SCORE: 80
It has been some time since I was at an early screener for When the
Game Stands Tall. I posed an interesting question in my Editor's Desk
concerning this movie. I have not received an official answer on that
question. So maybe I have my answer. Read that online Editor's Desk for
more background.
When the Game Stands Tall is a football movie that is more about growing
up. When the Game Stands Tall is all about giving your perfect effort on
every play. It is about training for what you are going to be
participating in. It is about not celebrating successes.
Life can be hard, and there are some very sad moments in When the Game
Stands Tall. A well liked kid heading off to college gets gunned down in
the hood. All because of jealousy. He beat some guys at a meaningless
game of basketball. Another kid loses his mom, and dad. The coach has a
heart attack thanks to his smoking.
The shock and awe of When the Game Stands Tall is this high school
football team won 151 games straight in a row. They shared and cared
with one another. They held each other accountable. They worked as a
team. No one member was above the team.
There is football music, and rap music in When the Game Stands Tall.
There are parts that could bring you to tears. There are also moments of
redemption, and of people finally getting it. There is a message of
picking yourself up after failing. There is also a message of what is
important, and what is not important.
Family Friendly Gaming was provided the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD copy
of When the Game Stands Tall. There are plenty of cool bonus features in
When the Game Stands Tall. Things like commentary, behind the scenes,
deleted scenes, a feature on Bob Ladouceur, and more.
I like movies like When the Game Stands Tall for one important reason.
They are real. They are genuine. When the Game Stands Tall teaches us
important lessons. When the Game Stands Tall addresses real tough issues
faced in our society.
