Xavier

Xavier is a downloadable only video game on the Wii U. It is a prehistoric side scrolling home console video game where a young man is coming of age. He must go on this quest to attain four artefacts to prove he is a man. The old rite of passage that our culture has somehow lost and forgotten.

Graphically Xavier has bright colors. There are plenty of platforms to jump around on. I noticed certain platform patterns repeated in multiple levels. Our main man in Xavier can pull himself up when you don't quite make it all the way on top of a platform. Just press up when you are close to it. Otherwise your character falls off the screen.

Expect numerous animal sounds out of Xavier. I liked them. Others here at Family Friendly Gaming had the opposite reaction to them. The same goes for the timer. It is nearly impossible in most levels to beat it in the time allocated. Thankfully Xavier lets players continue without meeting that unrealistic timer.

As I looked at the main character in Xavier, I had one thought. Man I wanted to pull that nose ring out. It is not to my personal taste and liking. We can modify the character in Xavier. That is part of the secrets and extra bonus content families can utilize.

Players have three hearts in Xavier. Falling off a ledge or getting hit by a creature will make you lose a heart. It will also warp you back to the last continuation point. You will not have to recollect the coins and gems that were found before you had an unfortunate accident.

The bad news about Xavier is there is action adventure violence. The animations are stiff. The level design is repetitive. Xavier is a bit too slow to be compared to Bonk. It is also not prehistoric enough to enter into the realm of Bonk. The little mini games in Xavier help add some diversity.
