5 Star Wrestling
SCORE: 65
If you are a long time professional wrestling fan then you are most
likely disappointed that WWE is mainly the only game in town. Sure there
is TNA. Things get even worse when we talk about wrestling video games.
Anything without the Vince McMahon seal of approval is few and far
between. Which is a shame because there are plenty of different ideas in
the industry that could be made into a great wrestling video game.
This is where 5 Star Wrestling on the Playstation 3 enters the arena.
This is a core wrestling experience. Casual gamers can enjoy a local
multiplayer which is generally easier than many of the challenges in
this downloadable only home console video game. Thankfully there are
none of those lame, and identity theft prone online modes in 5 Star
Wrestling.
The wrestlers look good and animate well in 5 Star Wrestling. I waited
for the most current update and bug fix. Some of the glitches were
definitely fixed in 5 Star Wrestling. I did notice some graphical
oddities while playing 5 Star Wrestling on the Playstation 3. I moved
around the other wrestler just to glitch right in front of him to take a
punch to the face. Weird but definitely forgivable.
The wrestlers in 5 Star Wrestling are parodies of some well known
wrestlers in real life. The roster is a bit on the limited side
unfortunately. The counting in 5 Star Wrestling is so slow. You almost
have to stay down or out of the ring. I wish there were some fans in the
stands of 5 Star Wrestling. Announcers are only found at the beginning
to tell players the names of the wrestlers. Which really helps if you
can not read their names on the screen.
There are numerous challenges in 5 Star Wrestling with multiple
objectives. As well as a variety of ways to play 5 Star Wrestling. Some
of the matches in 5 Star Wrestling are more violent than others. A first
blood match will ensure blood is shown on the screen at some point.
There are numerous punches, kicks, submissions and wrestling moves in 5
Star Wrestling. Some look very painful.
I love how Serious Parody did finisher moves in 5 Star Wrestling. A bar
builds and when it gets full, the player gets five stars on the screen.
Then you get close and press the triangle button to pull of a finishing
move. These will not always ensure a pin though. I had to hit that
finisher five times or more before certain characters would finally lay
down for the three second tan. Which felt more like a ten second tan
thanks to the slow count.
