Chronus Arc

Most role playing games are complex. In fact the majority of role playing video games are not open to the casual gamer. This is where Chronus Arc on the Nintendo 3DS comes in. This game is actually way more accessible to casual gamers than the majority of role playing games on the market. Chronus Arc is also an app port. Nintendo has been releasing plenty of app ports on their machines in recent years.

Chronus Arc is a downloadable only hand held video game. There are no physical copies of this role playing game with a rather strange premise. In this fantasy world there is a false god of time. The people have a festival where they can bring broken things and have them reset and restored to their former glory. I noticed a lot of selfishness among characters in Chronus Arc. They were all about what could be done for them.

The graphics in Chronus Arc show their app roots. I would describe them as small and bland. They certainly do not push the Nintendo 3DS to its limits. I doubt they push the iPhone to its limits either. The music in Chronus Arc is pleasant to listen to. There is unfortunately some bad language that brings down the audio department of Chronus Arc. That bad language was not needed. Chronus Arc would have been so much better without it.

The battles are turn based in Chronus Arc. Players pick their actions, and watch them unfold. Speed determines who goes first. Sometimes it is the enemies, and sometimes it is the player's characters. Expect color swapping on the monsters in Chronus Arc. There are quests to perform in Chronus Arc that grant the player a wide array of items and money. Materials are used to upgrade the weapons.

If you are familiar with older role playing games (like on the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Turbografx-16), then you will know all about grinding. This is the technique used to increase the power of your characters. It involves fighting enemies, fast traveling home, and then going out and fighting more of them. Characters will level up and grow more powerful. This is how to beat bosses that are tough, or to get through areas where the enemies are stronger than you.

I would love for some compilation cartridge of app role playing video games to be released on the Nintendo 3DS. I think a physical cartridge could hold multiple games, and consumers would be very interested. If you are new to role playing video games then let me give you some tips. Talk to every character. Pay attention to what they say. They will guide you to your next destination. Check every pot, and dresser for hidden items. Finally take your time, RPGs are meant to take longer than most other video games.
