Cinderella
SCORE: 84
My interest in the live action version of Cinderella has been really
high. I was very curious to see what Disney did with it. My hubby also
told me we had a reader express interest in this movie. I saw Cinderella
on Black Friday for ten dollars. It is the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD
version. That was a deal I could not pass up. Especially since we
requested a reviewable copy and never received a professional response.
The story in the live action of Cinderella is a bit different in a few
parts from what I remember seeing in other renditions. The evil step
mother destroys the second glass slipper and not the first one.
Cinderella meets the prince in the woods and only knows him as Mister
Kit. The evil step mother made a deal with a Duke to hide Cinderella
from the prince, so he would marry a princess from another country.
With the differences aside, I still enjoyed Cinderella. It is a very
clean movie. There are women in Cinderella that show off some cleavage.
The step sisters fight like cats and dogs. The step mother is a
character that is vile, and wicked. It is really easy to strongly
dislike the step mother in Cinderella. Her motives are interesting and
explored in this version of Cinderella.
The bonus content in Cinderella are Frozen Fever, A Fairy Tale Comes to
Life, Staging the Ball, Alternative Opening Ella's Childhood, Ella's
Furry Friends, and more. How Ella gets the name Cinderella is very
interesting. This movie also shows why marrying a second time can be a
bad thing. Poor Cinderella is in a horrible position living in her house
under the rule of a step mother who does not want her or care about her.
The fairy godmother makes an appearance in Cinderella. She is an odd
character who uses some form of magic to help Cinderella at that crucial
juncture. Cinderella makes it a long ways when the clock starts to chime
at midnight. She is also in some peril as the pumpkin begins to shrink.
It is a short scene that played out in a way I was not expecting. I
thought Cinderella would hop out before it began to shrink.
The biggest lesson in Cinderella is to be kind, and be courageous. The
prince does not honor his father the king. He does follow his own heart,
and marry the woman he loves. Cinderella floats the concept of having an
heir. We do not see if that happens or not by the end of Cinderella. I
wanted to know if they had children, and whether they were boys and/or
girls.
