Gamevice

Gamevice is a super sized controller that fits in with the iPad mini. It gives the iPad mini the much needed joysticks, D-pad, and buttons. We have written about it extensively at Family Friendly Gaming - too many apps need a real controller. Gamevice is a great step in that direction. What could the problem be? Not enough family friendly apps support Gamevice at this time.

I hope the list of games that support Gamevice as a controller grows. Especially the family friendly games. There are plenty of console like experiences on the iOS platform. Many of them are unplayable with the touch only controls. Gamevice fixes that for families. In fact holding the Gamevice with an iPad mini inside it feels like holding a Wii U Gamepad. There are actually few differences between the two.

Gamevice can be a bit of a pain to get set up the first time, and it is also a pain to remove the iPad mini to turn it off. It is simple to charge the Gamevice as long as you have an USB charger. See the cord that comes with the Gamevice plugs into a USB device to charge. Family Friendly Gaming uses one of those USB chargers. Other electronics can charge the Gamevice as well.

Gamevice looks good, and it feels good. The buttons work like a home console controller. Both ends of the Gamevice are very solid. The middle connecting piece in Gamevice is rubbery and it stretches to fit in the iPad mini. Please note if you have a case on your iPad mini, then you will need to remove it to use the Gamevice. Let's be honest here, if you get a Gamevice, you are probably getting it to improve the poor touch screen only controls in a game you really like.

Families all over the world can celebrate the release of the Gamevice for the iPad mini. It can really enhance console quality apps on the iPad mini. If you are constantly complaining about the touch screen only controls then you need to look into investing in the Gamevice. It gives you the flexibility of the iPad mini with the console quality controls the system is lacking.
